K40 million for UNRE misused: Tabar

About K40 million  belonging to the University of Natural Resources and Environment (UNRE) has been misused. PNG Minister for High Education Science and Technology Malakai Tabar told PNGFM News network that the funds were mismanaged by former Vice Chancellor Dr Siaguru. Mr. Tabar was also responding to series of questions asked during Parliament question session with regards to the University of Natural Resources and Environment.

The questions were raised on the floor of Parliament by the Member for Rabaul Dr Allan MARAT.
Minister Tabar replied that the current administration under the acting VC Dr Laup Samson was tasked to carry the job of cleaning up the mess created by Dr Siaguru including investigating all the failed infrastructure projects under UNRE under the tenure of Siaguru.
The Minister says, he has received a full investigative report on the issue of funds under the former VC tenureship and will be sitting with the University Board Members this week to see how they can go forward in dealing with those at fault in misusing at least K40M.

Mr Malakai says he will not hesitate either to send these documents to the fraud squad to deal with. He says the report highlights blatant misuse of funds focused on improving the University’s facilities and students learning and this must be taken seriously. PNGFM / PNG Today
