PNG Tourism Promotion Authority, Director Policy and Planning, Alcinda Trawen has been appointed as the new Deputy Lead-Shepherd to the Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation Tourism Working at the 48th APEC Tourism Working Group (TWG) meeting in Lima, Peru.

Nominations were welcomed by the APEC Tourism Working Group Lead-Shepherd from USA during the meet where Trawen was nominated by fellow APEC TWG colleagues to take on the responsibility.

The appointment was made in Lima, Peru on May 26 during the tourism meeting there.

Trawen’s vocal interventions during the last three years in APEC Tourism Working Group meeting(s), PNGs recently approved TWG Project and upcoming TWG49 Meeting in Kokopo were listed as contributing factors to her nomination which received overwhelming support from APEC member economies within the tourism sector.

This will be the first time PNG plays host to the APEC Tourism Working Group which is deemed timely as the Government of PNG has prioritised tourism as a key economic growth sector, hence the opportunity to promote PNG to APEC Tourism colleagues and engage in tourism policy dialogue.

With the appointment of Trawen as Deputy Lead-Shepherd to the APEC TWG, PNG will continue its already active engagement and work activities within the APEC tourism forum towards PNG’s APEC hosting year in 2018.

PNG TPA recognizes the importance of aligning domestic tourism policies to APEC policies in order for the PNG tourism industry and stakeholders to benefit from APEC workshops, information sharing, best practices and capacity building.
