Task Force announced to investigate threats against security


The National Security Council, Chaired by Chief Secretary, Issac LUPARI has today announced the setting up of a NATIONAL JOINT SECURITY TASK FORCE, which will be headed by Police Commissioner, Gari BAKI.


Mr Baki’s role in this task force will be assisted by the PNG Defense Force, The Attorney General’s Office, The National Intelligence Office and the Correctional Service to investigate citizens/groups that are posing or intending to pose a threat towards the normal flow of services and national security in PNG.

Mr Lupari specifically pointed out threats from the Unions, Students, Landowners, Public Servants, Social Media Comments and even Politicians who he deemed as inciting fear or instability to the security of other Papua New Guineans and in breach of the rule of law.
This means that the new TASK FORCE will now investigate any threats to national security and if need be, these individuals will be arrested and prosecuted.

He emphasized that this new task force’s role is not a threat towards the FREEDOM of EXPRESSION but citizens must be exercise this right within the confinements of our laws.
“You can’t take the law into your own hands, because the constitution provides you that liberty, what about the liberty of others, we need to respect the liberty of others,” said Mr Lupari.
