UPNG students to resume classes in September

The University of Papua New Guinea has today announced that classes will resume on the 5th September this year for both the Waigani and Taurama Campuses.
The resumption of classes sees the revised academic calendar as follows:
Semester one will end in October of 2016 before Semester two recommences on Monday the 07th of November 2016 and end on the 19th of December 2016 for Christmas and New Year break with the final part of Semester two to recommence on the 16th of January 2017 and ending on March the 15th 2017.
“The decision to resume classes places the onus on those students who wish to complete their Semester one studies in 2016 and then continue with Semester two of the academic program in late 2016 and 2017, to present themselves at their respective offices prior to commencement of classes, “ said UPNG Acting Chancellor Dr. Nicholas Mann.
Dr. Mann added that students are encouraged to be on campus by Saturday the 27th of August 2016 which will see the beginning of the form and registration re-enrolment for the 2016 Semester two with enrolment applications available at the respective school offices with a section to be completed by students who wish to withdraw for other reasons without penalties.
The decision to bring back the academic year by the UPNG Council for both the Waigani and Taurama campuses is timely as the Government has allocated financially K12 million in support for the recommencement and extra security to be provided on both campuses and to meet other essential expenditures including repair and damage to the University’s property.
Dr Mann further added that a reconciliation ceremony has been scheduled for the 02nd of September 2016 between the students and the University to be headed by the university chaplains and that unlike the other universities in the country there has not been any shortened days in the academic year and the resumption sees the full weeks studied in a normal academic year.
