Australia provides more assistance to Tonga police

Australia and Tonga have assigned a Subsidiary Arrangement relating to the Tonga Police Development Programme.

The agreement will allow Tonga’s government to receive 1.3 million pa’anga as Australia’s contribution to the police development programme for 2017-2018.

The agreement was signed by Tonga’s Acting Minister of Foreign Affairs Lord Ma’afu and Australian High Commissioner to Tonga Andrew Ford in Nuku’alofa yesterday.

Radio Tonga reports the amount is the contribution of the Australian government as part of Tripartite Agreement with New Zealand and Tonga.

Lord Ma’afu praised the continuous support from both the Australian and New Zealand governments in this agreement.

He adds this will no doubt help the Ministry deliver their role effectively to the people of Tonga.

Australian High Commissioner to Tonga Mr Ford said, the Australian Government is happy to assist Tonga especially the Ministry of Police.

He adds this agreement’s priorities focus on leadership and building an efficient and effective Tonga Police Force, and Australian and New Zealand Government fully support this.
