Pacific’s largest women’s conference to take place in Suva, Fiji

The 13th Triennial Conference of Pacific Women and 6th Meeting of the Pacific Ministers for Women will be held from the 02 October -06 October at the Novotel Lami Bay in Suva, Fiji.

The conference will bring together senior government officials and civil society representatives from across 22 Pacific Island countries and territories to discuss progress made on commitments to increasing gender equality, identify measures to accelerate progress and implementation efforts in the region.

Successive Triennial Conferences have provided an important space for the participation of civil society organisations. This year’s conference will see greater engagement by civil society, particularly young women and women with disability.

The conference will also encourage greater partnership between governments and development partners to support the participation of civil society representatives on official delegations, so that there is a stronger, more amplified Pacific voice at global discussions on gender.

The overarching theme of this year’s Triennial and Conference is Pacific Women’s economic empowerment. Republic of the Marshall Islands President Dr Hilda Heine, the first woman head of state of an independent Pacific Island nation, will deliver the key note address.

The 13th Triennial Conference of Pacific Women and the 6th Meeting of Ministers for Women is primarily coordinated by ‘conference secretariat’ the Pacific Community (SPC), in collaboration with the multi-partner ‘steering committee’, and principally supported by the Australian Government.
