PNG Hunters book final spot after 6 - 4 win over Redcliffe Dolphins

The Papua New Guinea SP Hunters have booked the final  spot in the 2017 Intrust Super Cup after a
historical win over the Redcliffe Dolphins at the packed National Football Stadium in Port Moresby this afternoon.

The game began with the Redcliffe  Dolphins dominated possession in the first half but they could not find the try line as the brick wall defence from the Hunters denied any chances of scoring.

However, two penalty goals were awarded to the visitor who shot for goals in each case and took the lead to  4 - 0  into half-time.

In the second half, the Hunters dominated possession and attacked  the Redcliffe's try line. On the  62 minutes , captain Ase Boas scored the only try of the game that sent the 15 0000 plus fans into rapture. He converted his own try and  put his team ahead with 6 - 4 score  with 18 minutes on the clock.

The Dolphins threw everything at the Hunters but the  determined defensive effort by the home side kept the visitors with no try.

Ase’s brother Watson Boas was awarded the man of the match.

Hunters will meet the winner of the Dolphins and Sunshine Coast Falcons preliminary final.

The 2017 Intrust Super Cup grand final will be played at Suncorp Stadium on September 24.
