PNG Minister Pato to discuss relations, North Korea's missile tests

PNG Foreign Affairs Minister Pato
Papua New Guinea Foreign Affairs and Trade Minster Rimbink Pato,  will be in Seoul this week where he will meet South Korean Foreign Minister Kang Kyung Wha.
On the agenda for the bilateral meeting will be the North Korean nuclear and missile tests and the enhancement of the partnership South Korea has shown to Papua New Guinea through undertaking key development projects.
“My meeting with Khang will reaffirm the deep friendship between our two countries,” he said.
“It comes at a difficult time following the recent North Korean missile test. I made it clear in Parliament this week in a detailed statement in response to a question from Rabual MP Dr Allan Marat that PNG stands firmly with other members in the United Nations in the efforts to seek the implementation of Security Council’s resolutions calling for the denuclearisation of the Korean Peninsula.
“Papua New Guinea maintains its policy of connectivity of being a friend to all and an enemy to none, and it is in this context that we seek a solution to the threat to peace on the peninsula,” he said.
“Along with other Pacific countries, we are a signatory to the nuclear non-proliferation treaty, and we assist by hosting monitoring stations in our country that can detect and atmospheric and underground nuclear weapons testing.”
Ministers from 18 Pacific Islands Forum states, not including Australia and New Zealand, will also attend the meeting. The National /PacNews/PNG Today
