Solomon Islands Man in custody for allegedly raping 12-year-old girl in Makira

A man in his 30’s has been remanded in the Kirakira Correctional Centre to appear before the Eastern Magistrate Court on 1 May 2018 for allegedly raping a 12-year-old girl.

The man has been charged by police in Makira-Ulawa Province after his arrest on 14 April 2018.

It is alleged the man raped the 12-year-old girl at a place close to Maepua village about 9 kilometres west of Kirakira town on 13 April 2018.

“This is another report of an alleged rape which total up to three cases of rape recorded alone for this month, April in Makira-Ulawa Province,” says Provincial Police Commander (PPC) Superintendent Peter Sitai.

PPC Sitai adds: “The three reports of alleged rape attended by my officers for this month may indicate that victims of sexual abuse in the Makira-Ulawa Province are confident to come forward to police.”

“I appeal to anyone, who in the province alleged to be a victim of such case to come forward and report to police, so that proper investigation may eventuate as soon as possible,” says Superintendent Sitai.
