Australia to boost Internet connectivity in Port Moresby ahead of APEC in PNG

Investments in Information Communication and Technology (ICT) play a critical role in advancing economic growth, and increasing the reach and quality of service delivery. As the transition to an increasingly intensive knowledge-based global economy accelerates, it is critical for all countries to harness the opportunities offered by ICT to remain competitive.

This is why the Australian Government is working in partnership with the Government of Papua New Guinea to deliver a new satellite internet system at Kumul Telikom Holdings sites in Gerehu and Boroko, Port Moresby. This includes new satellite tracking terminals and support Infrastructure, which will enable Papua New Guinea to access up to six gigabytes per second of additional internet capacity via medium earth orbit satellites.The project is valued at approximately PGK20 million.

The new satellite system, which will improve there liability, speed and capacity of internet in Papua New Guinea, has the potential to deliver significant economic and development benefits for Papua New Guineans into the future.
Delivery of the satellite system by late-October 2018 will also ensure the project improves internet connectivity during APEC Leaders’ Week, supporting the Government of Papua New Guinea’s focus on the digital economy as this year’s APEC theme.....read more on  PNG eHow
