Aiton among 29 Recognized as PNG Citizen

Twenty-nine people can now truly call themselves 'Papua New Guineans.'

This after the National Government through the PNG Immigration and Citizenship Authority granted twenty-seven of them their requests to be dual citizens, while the other two gave up their home countries to be naturalized citizens.

Most of these people have spent decades of their lives in PNG as businessmen and women.

Immigration and Border Security Minister Petrus Thomas when welcoming them yesterday, acknowledged their contributions to the country - adding that he is confident they will continue in the same light.

Citizenship recipient and Kumul veteran Paul Aiton who spoke on behalf of the other recipients described the dual citizenship status as 'the best Independence gift ever' for him.

Mr. Aiton and his mom - Therese Anne Aiton who were among the 27 officially recognized as dual citizens, says he looks forward to being a role model for young Papua New Guineans in Rugby league.

Also among the 27 were Lae Snax Tigers Chairman Adrian Chow and the Sir Brian Bell Foundation CEO Bronwyn Wright.

The duo who gave up their countries to be naturalized citizens are Subha Sasindran and Jimmy Son.
