Parkop : PNG Flags Only during Independence

It's that time of the year again - but while the country should be celebrating its 44th Independence anniversary and with only one flag and that is the PNG flag of red, black and gold - Papua New Guineans especially in Port Moresby are instead out with their provincial flags.

NCD Governor Powes Parkop is therefore calling on city residents to refrain from carrying their provincial flags while out celebrating.

He says he does not have the powers to ban sales and production of these provincial flags and therefore is just making this appeal.

Meantime, Governor Parkop says the Independence commemorations for Port Moresby will be officially launched tomorrow Saturday 14th September at the Independence boulevard.

He says Independence activities will run from Sunday 15th- Independence day Monday 16th September, and will be held in different locations in the city.

The NCD Governor says the police and other security personnel will be out in full force to ensure peaceful celebrations and he is encouraging Papua New Guineans to celebrate peacefully as a united nation.
