PNG Health Department seeks K45 million to fight Coronavirus
A K45 million kina submission is expected to be given to the National Executive Council (NEC) today to assist in the fight against the coronavirus.
PNG National Department of Health Executive Manager Public Health Division Dr. Daoni Esorom confirmed this with NBC.
He said the money will be used in the response to the outbreak.
Dr. Esorom said, the Department is currently using internal funds of K5 million to carry out prevention work.
"Under our emergency response, we've got a plan, coronavirus plan and we've got a budget now that we are going to submit it to the NEC on Wednesday.
"So under the emergency response plan, it clearly identifies the areas that we need to improve and strengthen, and then how much money we require.
"The money from NEC is not only for Health but it will also include other sectors, it will build and expand on what we currently work on.
"We also have a search plan in the NEC submission for different scenarios, in the event that we have one suspect or 10 suspect cases, we have a plan and now we are fully costing it," said Dr. Esorom.
