Port Moresby Governor Pakop wants flights from border provinces limited

With the government's decision to open domestic flights beginning tomorrow, the NCD Governor wants flights coming into Port Moresby from the two border provinces to be strictly monitored and limited.

Powes Pakop is opting for any flights coming in from Western and Sandaun provinces to be limited to one flight per week.

His concern was raised to the Minister for Immigration and representatives of airline companies in the country in a meeting this morning.

Pakop says he will write a letter to the State Of Emergency Controller and Police Commissioner David Manning to effect this.

Pakop emphasizes that he has received news of increased COVID 19 cases in Jayapura but they are not honest with their data, hence he is not taking any risk allowing more domestic flights in from the border provinces.

The Governor says NCD residents including the people of Motu Koitabu and Central and Gulf provinces who share the same highway are at greater risk and he is not taking this lightly.

More so Pakop says the whole country is at risk given Port Moresby is the transit point to other provinces.

Meantime, the two main airlines operating in the country Air Niugini and PNG Air say awaiting the SOE Controller's direction, they will not uplift passengers from the border provinces.
