NCD ABA set for National Boxing Championships
The NCD Amateur Boxing Association today hosted its second bout of boxing competition at the residence of NCD Deputy City Manager Honk Kiap who is also the President of the Association. Today’s event saw a total of 9 Associations within NCD fronting up with their boxers from the cadet level, seniors and novice.
According to the Associations Vice President Mr Wilfred Mai, they are using this regular season competition also to select their best fighters to represent NCD at the National Boxing Championships from the 26th to 29th of November in Kavieng, New Ireland.
He said they will be selecting about 28 to 30 fighters from both male and female divisions for all the categories that will be on offer during the champs.
Few of their top and senior fighters were in sublime form today winning their respective category bouts and are set for the champs.
Mr Mai added that most of their boxers are doing their own training and are in top form and prepared to defend their title in Kavieng.
Meanwhile, he said they are currently racing against time to find a sponsor to help with travel arrangements as airfares to Kavieng is very expensive. Official sponsors, Kana Construction Ltd has yet to confirm their sponsorship as well as NCDC through their Sports Desk. PNGFM/PNGTODay
