Governor Parkop receives student petition

Governor Powes Parkop has received a petition from protesting University of Papua New Guinea students at the University Campus this afternoon.

The governor was accompanied to the UPNG campus by his colleague NCD national parliamentarians Justin Tkatchenko (Moresby South), Labi Amaiu (Moresby Northeast) as well as policemen.

Mr. Parkop told the students that he would personally deliver the petition to Prime Minister Peter O'Neill.

Prime Minister Peter O'Neill did not respond to the student demands that called for him to present himself to the University Campus and received the petition. "All PMs in the past have maintained a stand to protect the integrity of the Office of The Prime Minister of Papua New Guinea so that a precedent is not set where the incumbent PM has to succumb to threats and or demands" he said.  He refused to go the University to receive the petition since the student protest began.
