Samoa’s Head of State, His Highness Tuiatua Tupua Tamasese Efi has called on the government and village leaders to learn from lessons in 2016 and work together to make a safer Samoa.

His remarks were made in his official royal address to the country as Samoa heads into Christmas and New Year.

“This year, we have seen time and again the discovery of hard drugs, drugs paraphernalia, military-grade weapons, and so much more in Samoa. This is a warning sign that we must not miss going into the New Year,” he said.

“Our government, should be better connected to its people, because that what we are in need of. A strong collaboration between government and villages,” he added.

“We need to act quickly, in order to help us avoid the whip and suffering we may soon discover with the existence of these malicious drugs, and weapons in our country,” he said.

The Head of State’s address which was entitled “God supports those who weave with faith,” was focused on the role of women in Samoa.

His Highness has emphasized the importance of family and faith in the Samoan way of life.

“Mother Mary was a skilled weaver. She wove with faith that today we may commemorate this very special celebration,” he said.

“She was the strong point in her family. Her faith, kept the goal alive and that was the birth of Jesus Christ. Samoa, we must weave with faith, because God supports and provides for those who do,” he added.

“Our sacred bonds to everything around us, is a celebration of its own. You and your environment, your peers, our elders, and especially our God,” he said.

“I wish you all a very safe Christmas and a very Happy New Year.” LoopSamoa
