Kairuku Hiri MP Peter Isoaimo slams appointment of Duma
The Member for Kairuku Hiri, Peter Isoaimo has joined his people in questioning the appointment of William Duma as the caretaker Minister for Public Enterprises and State Investment.
Mr Duma was implicated with other ministers and senior public servants in March this year over the 46 million kina transaction that took place to move the PNG Defence Force base to Manumanu in his Kairuku-Hiri District of Central Province.
Mr Isoaimo said, “his people were initially promised a Commission of Inquiry by Prime Minister Peter O'Neill but this has since been downgraded to an administrative inquiry with findings still outstanding and the appointment of Mr. Duma is likely to interfere and stall with this inquiry.”
He added that the appointment is a slap in the face of his people especially those from Gabadi and Manumanu and if such dubious deals are not challenge, this huge spending of government money without proper consultations with landowners will continue and become accepted government behavior.
Meanwhile, the Opposition has also announced that they will be assisting Mr. Isoaimo and the Central Governor Robert Agorabe to push for the sidelining of Mr. Duma, and calling for the completion of the investigation into the Manumanu Land Deal.
National Alliance Party Leader Patrick Pruaitch said, "land grabbing must stop and the Member for Hagen Open must not take any portfolio of consequence in the Government until the investigation is complete and the findings made public first."
He said, "the Prime Minister should be ashamed of himself, for not living up to his promise to the people of Central Province by failing to complete the inquiry and returning their land, and now appointing Duma as well." NBC News / PNG Today
