China to send Medical Ship to Papua New Guinea


China will send a full state-of-the art medical navy ship to Papua New Guinea in September this year with top doctors and medical staff to help the people of this country.
This is part of a US$500 million program arranged by the Government of the republic of China through the PNG-China Friendship Association to further enhance the bilateral relationship of China and PNG at a political level.
The navy vessel, with 400 crew members on board, is scheduled to visit Port Moresby from September 13-18th, during the country’s 39th Independence celebrations.
China is already making an impact in the assisting the health system of PNG through its programs, one of it the two-year program where top doctors from China are identified and sent to PNG to assist at the Port Moresby General Hospital for the last 13 years.
China is also making an impact with its multi-billion kina companies engaged in construction work in PNG including many other major projects.
Last Thursday the Chinese Embassy in Port Moresby hosted a welcome dinner program for the Guangdong medical delegation who were in town with a good number of senior and top grade physicians and started work with the POM General Hospital to provide medical service for PNG patients and conducted exchanges on relevant subjects.
The delegation was led by Ambassador Wu Ken, deputy secretary general of Gunagdong provincial government and head of the Guangdong medical delegation. PNG Today/Post Courier
