New local TV channel for PNG
Papua New Guinea’s first national commercial digital channel PNG TV is set to launch providing Papua New Guineans access to higher quality and more informative locally made programmes.
PNG TV, part of the Click TV platform, will also provide a boost to national audio visual production firms and will allocate airtime and resources to ensure the Television industry encapsulates local culture, tolerance and understanding.
Established in 2013 and fully licensed by NICTA, Click TV first ventured into PNG with the successful distribution of the 2014 Fifa World Cup.
Click recently signed a contract with Pacific Games to broadcast coverage of the 2015 Pacific Games in High Definition, the first ever HD broadcast of the Pacific Games in its 52 year history.
“This is a giant leap for Papua New Guinea. We will take PNG into the digital era and will ensure both an affordable and high quality service to all”, Click’s Managing Director Richard Broadbridge said.
“We are excited at the prospect of providing PNG High Definition. Our solution means every city, town, province, district and village can access television for the first time”, Broadbridge added.
PNG TV is a central part of Click TV and has discussed plans with PNG training institutions to provide training and certification for up and coming Television production personnel.
The company says it has in place all the requirements to strong news, current affairs and sports programmes as well as debates and a locally theme drama programme.
PNG TV says it has advertised careers and has encouraged Papua New Guineans to apply as they will form an integral part of this PNG made venture.
The new TV station has encouraged Papua New Guineans who wish to form partnerships with PNG TV to make contact and work towards creating and maintaining more nation building content.
