PNG Defence Force kick off Pacific Games operations
More than 300 soldiers will now be engaged in the Pacific Games Security Operations following the official commencement of exercise Pacific Wantok today.
Army Commander, Gilbert Toropo, said what is important in keeping the peace and security during the Pacific Games is discipline and he expects his men and women to show that during the games security operation.
Commander Toropo says security will be tight with the joint operation of the Police, Correctional Services and Papua New Guinea Defense Force and predicts a peaceful Pacific Games for all.
“I want to assure our people that all venues will be saturated with security force elements totaling over 2, 000 personnel, so you can be well assured of our security,” he said.
Also the Commander is confident in the Command Element established to command and control the security operations, both from Police and Defense.
Meantime, he urged the public to cooperate with the security teams to ensure a peaceful and secure 2015 Pacific Games.
