New Act blocks Solomon Islands MPs

The newly introduced Solomon Islands Political Party Integrity (PPI) Act is said to have stripped-off power of individual Members of Parliament (MP), who resigned from the government and regroup to form any coalition.
 
This was revealed by People’s Alliance Party (PAP) Charles Ashley during a short interview with the Solomon Star.
 
Elaborating on the PPI Act Ashley pointed out that there is no other way for any resigned Cabinet member who crossed the floor would merge with any other group without formally withdrawing from his party.
 
He argued the party have the overall say over the decision of individual Member of Parliament (MP) who wish to resign from the ruling government that his or her party is running.
 
He said their resignation from the government does not mean they have the right to join the other group within the house, unless his party that pledged their support to form the Democratic Coalition for Change (DCC) government withdraws from the DCC.
 
Ashley added this new Act (PPI) helps to put any elected government of this country in a better position, considering the fact that decision makings and actions of MPs will more reflective of the party’s interest, which builds upon national interest rather than individualism, as use to be the case in the past governments.
