Polye : I am confident of becoming Prime Minister
PORT MORESBY: Opposition Leader Don Polye says he is confident that he will be the country’s next Prime Minister. “You know why I am saying this?
“Because there is no place for corruption, suppression of human rights, politicising systems of governance and constitutional offices, and disobeying rule of law and democracy in our society,” Mr Polye uttered when speaking at a gathering in Sinai village in Madang yesterday (Sunday 22 November).
He did not indicate whether it will be before or after the 2017 general elections.
Almost all the decisions made by the current government, he said, were not in the best interest of PNG.
He cited among the unlawful and undemocratic decisions by the government was the bulldozing of the 2016 Budget without reserving any room for the normal convention under the West Minister system of government in which the Opposition gives its reply after a week.
“This is wrong and such is a classic act of a steal man who doesn’t want to be seen or caught red-handed with his crime proceeds,” he said. Mr Polye reiterated that the budget was a paper one and hoax.
He thanked the people of Momase through their representatives for having the confidence in him to take the highest post in the Vote of No-confidence against the PM moved recently by the PanguPati leader and his deputy Sam Basil.
He said the nomination was seconded by Grand Chief Sir Michael Somare in the presence of Sir Julias Chan. “The founding fathers of PNG have blessed me to become the next PM.
“Tomorrowtasolbai me kamap Prime Minister sapos papa God laikim mi lo kamap”(I will become the next Prime Minister tomorrow if God wants me to be),a determined Polye confidently told a crowd at the villagein Madang. Prior to the Prime Minister Peter O’Neill’s launching of the Pacific Maritime Industrial Zone (PMIZ), the Opposition Leader, flanked by Rai Coast MP Hon. James Gau and Lae MP Hon. LoujayaKouza, was in Madang for his party Triumph Heritage Empowerment (T.H.E.) Party’s Momase caucus meeting at the weekend.
