Men of Honour nomination period nears end

Tuesday 15th December 2015, Port Moresby || Time is running out to nominate deserving candidates for the 2016 Digicel Foundation PNG Men of Honour awards, with less than two months to go until the January 31 nomination deadline.

Now in its second year, the important initiative is aimed at rewarding men who are actively alleviating suffering and preserving human dignity through the vital roles they play within their community.
The five categories which make up the awards include Community Ingenuity, Sporting Mentor, Community Entrepreneur, Community Education Champion and Community Leadership.
Digicel Foundation CEO, Beatrice Mahuru said it is important for communities to identify strong male role models and celebrate their positive behavior as an example for others to follow.
“As a foundation, we want to break the cycle of violence through focusing on positive behavior for
affirmative action,” she said.

“The Men of Honour Awards recognises men of character and I would like to invite as many of these men as possible to take this journey with us, and leave their own special legacy.”
There were a total of 392 nominations for this year’s inaugural awards with an independent panel of judges selecting a group of 15 finalists, from which the five winners were announced.
For those selected, the April awards ceremony will be just the beginning of their journey within the
program.
The winners of this year’s awards have participated in a variety of community-based initiatives including workshops on leadership and advocacy, and visiting schools to educate young people on the importance of acting in an honourable way.
