Airborne integrity inspection of Transmission lines in Port Moresby
PNG Power Ltd (PPL) is conducting an Airborne Integrity Inspection of all transmission lines apparatus within the city’s power grid. PPL has engaged Aeropower, an Australian based company to conduct the line integrity inspection. Aeropower, based in Queensland, will conduct this exercise as part of the ongoing transmission lines inspection program to check and verify the condition of the transmission lines and associated hardware.
The outcome of the inspection will allow PPL to plan its resources to carry out maintenance on those lines that are identified to have issues.
The integrity inspection will be conducted from a helicopter utilising high resolution cameras. The helicopter crew will fly quite low and above or near the overhead structures to inspect the lines and associated hardware.
Operations commence today and will end on Friday February 5, 2016. The operation will commence daily at first light to capture the best weather conditions.
PPL requests Port Moresby residents to remain calm and keep children and pets away at a safe distance from the work areas as PPL would like to avoid frightening them while work is being carried out.
