UB40 gets PNG fans groovy
Those who weren’t born in the sixties got a taste of how it was to be ‘groovy’ back then when the famous reggae band UB40 belted their all time numbers yesterday night as the residents of Port Moresby gathered at the Sir John Guise stadium in numbers for the performance that succeeded in building a groovy moment for the fans.
Fans arrived as early as 4:30pm and did not fail to give a rousing PNG ‘hop hop hoi!’ welcome to the band that arrived at 7pm. Cameras and Selfie sticks served their purpose as flashlights from phones and cameras twinkled like stars under the full moon.
The group came with its own band members who did not hold anything back as the fans sang along to songs like ‘red red wine’, ‘Kingston town’ and ‘bring me the cup’. The crowd was generally on good behaviour and fans said the show was great.
One concert goer Peter Kakata from Bougainville said although he was abit disappointed that the band did not play his favourite ‘Where did i go wrong’, he was happy to see the lead vocalist Ali Campbell in live after years of hearing him on radio. The band leaves Port Moresby today as all the pictures taken at the concert grace the phones and social media pages of PNG UB40 fans and enthusiast.
