Schools told not to charge project fees
Dr. Uke Kondra |
The 2016 academic year starts today, with hundreds of thousands of students enrolling.
The Acting Secretary for Education Dr Uke Kombra, in a circular last month, advised all schools and institutions in the national education system to charge project fees.
But in a another circular today, he's instructed schools and institutions NOT to charge the fees until the National Executive Council deliberates and determines concerns related to the fees.
Dr Kombra said many schools are confused about the purpose of the Tuition Fee Free policy, and are charging parents school fees and project fees to enroll their children.
He said many have charged fees well above the fee limits set by the National Education Board.
Dr Kombra adds, 49.6 million Kina has been paid into schools accounts as of January 27th - funding from last year.
He said, the department is preparing for the release of about 75 million Kina of the 2016 TFF of 602 million Kina.
