Art and Craft Needs Boost in Tourism
Art and craft makers in Papua New Guinea mostly depend on tourists to sell their products.. This is from artist David Wena who hails from Simbu Province. Wena who was taught by his brother Gigs Wena to paint started his work in 2007. He says so far his painting are on the internet market however his sales in the country is low because he says the market depends on tourists . Mr Wena was selling his paintings at the Laguna Hotel Art and Craft Market. He says even though the sales of art and craft in the country is not satisfactory art and craft makers strive with passion as it is their means of surviving in the city. He suggested that tourism in the country needs to be boosted by the concerned agencies. Mr Wena’s paintings can be seen on market displays at Holiday Inn, Port Moresby Art Theatre and Ela Beach Craft Markets every Saturday.
