Prime Minister O'Neill apologizes to students
Prime Minister, Peter O'Neill, has expressed his Government's sympathies to students of the University of Papua New Guinea and members of the public, injured from yesterday's confrontation with police.
Surrounded by members of his Cabinet at his Parliament Office this afternoon, Peter O'Neill says his Government remains committed to seeing Semester 1 resume at the UPNG next Tuesday, and the academic year completed successfully.
"This confrontation was unnecessary.
"It could have been handled a bit better, by of course not allowing these sort of confrontations to take place.
"We will do, as government, everything possible to meet the costs of the delays in trying to ensure that the classes continue to resume.
"We will find some savings somewhere and we will make sure we meet the cost of running this extended period of time to make sure that the students receive the education that they deserve," Prime Minister O'Neill said today at his office at Parliament House. NBC/ PNG Today
