PNG student killed by fellow PNG student in Manila, Phillipines
An unfortunate incident that occurred in the Philippines has left a family heart broken, deeply saddened and in great loss.
The Leo Balus family originally from Enga but based in Mt Hagen has lost their last born child, who has been studying at the Adamson University in Manila, the capital of Philippines.
According to a copy of the police reports in the Philippines released to PNG Media, the deceased, Johnny Leo, 22, who is affectionately known to his friends back home as ‘Quest’ was allegedly stabbed to death by his school mate and fellow Papua New Guinean, in the early hours of Sunday July 17 at around 6.30 am.
The incident occurred inside his apartment room at the Balagtas Royal Mansion, near St Pasay City, where he lived and studied since 2012.
He was doing his final year studying economics at the university when he was suddenly killed in a violent manner by someone he had known as a close friend and school mate.
The police reports indicated that Johnny was stabbed twice with a kitchen knife, one on the chest and another beside his left arm. He was rushed to the Manila Adventist Medical hospital by his roommate and security guards but was confirmed dead shortly after.
The suspect was apprehended by Manila police that same day when the matter was reported and detained at the police cell awaiting court appearances.
The incident has taken the family, relatives and close friends of Late Johnny by shock when the news of his death was shared by his elder brother Jerry Leo via social media.
Jerry told Post-Courier that the family is mourning the death with two separate haus krai’s at Tee School in Mt Hagen and Hohola three (3) PNG Power Compound in Port Moresby.
He said the family did not have any immediate relatives in the Philippines to assist them repatriate the body back home and they are trying their best to liaises with the PNG Embassy there to assist them repatriate the body back.
“We are appealing to the PNG Embassy there and the Minister for Foreign Affairs Rimbink Pato to assist us in repatriating the body back home to PNG.
“We did not expect this to happen. We were about to pay his tuition fees next week for the continuation of his final semester before the completion of his studies at the end of this year when we received this unfortunate news of his death,” Jerry said.
“We would be grateful if the Embassy in Manila and the Foreign Affairs Ministry assist us to repatriate the body back as we are greatly shattered by this unfortunate incident in such challenging times,” Jerry said.
