POMIS science team invited to visit Japan

Five students and a teacher from the Port Moresby International School (POMIS) have been invited by the Japan Science and Technology Agency (JST) to take part in a program.

The Pacific invitational program targets aspiring young people in Asia. It aims to promote innovation by deepening participants’ knowledge of science and technology and encouraging the active exchange of ideas and opinions in a multi-lateral environment.

The program goal is to nurture aspiring young scientists in Asia.

The group representing PNG will be; Kathy Tamanas (teacher supervisor), Adrian Boboro, Emerald Kaupa, Minhee Kook, Kimberley Mageu and Jeroby Pile – all Grade 11 students.

They will be visiting top universities, research institutes and workshops, as well as interacting with high school students from the Super Science High School in Tokyo.

A particular highlight of the trip will be when Kimberley Mageu takes part in a hands-on chemistry experiment with Nobel Laureate, Dr. Hideki Shirakawa, on July 19.

The group leaves Port Moresby International Airport this Sunday at 9.25am.
