Somare boosts Opposition ranks

The father of the nation Grand Chief and Governor for Sepik Sir Michael Thomas Somare boosted the Opposition ranks this afternoon by showing his support for the alternate Government.

In a press conference held by the Opposition camp this afternoon, the Grand Chief Somare was welcomed by the Opposition and flanked by Melanesian Liberal leader and Rabaul MP Doctor Alan Marat, PNG National Party and Member for Sinasina Yongomugl Kerenga Kua, Triumphant Heritage Empowerment party leader and Opposition leader Don Polye, Kavieng MP and Peoples Progress Party leader Ben Micah, Member for Vanimo Green and PNG Party leader Belden Namah and Deputy Opposition leader and leader of Pangu Party Sam Basil.

While the Grand Chief did not say anything the Opposition profile has just being raised with the country’s founding father revealing his intention on where he stands during this political impasse.

“On behalf of the coalition team of the new alternative government, before we start our statements, I want to welcome the Right Honorable Sir Michael Thomas Somare for being with us in our media conference today among us and blessing us with his presence.

When you have pioneers, founding leaders, formidable leaders like our Grand Chief Michael Somare, Sir Julius Chan, Rabbie Namaliu, Mekere Morauta, and people like Paias Wingti, it raises the profile and the credibility of young leaders and it also reflects another thing it shows the guys on the other side the Government side are not doing their job properly “, said Polye.

In a joint call the Opposition leaders present has called on members of the Parliament to consider the Vote of No Confidence (VONC) in Prime Minister Peter O’Neill seriously and responsibly and in the spirit of the VONC to take the time to listen to the people in their constituencies and stake holders as to what they want in regard to the current situation faced by the country.

In extending an open call to members of parliament to join the Opposition and to be guided by their consciences and not to let money or other undue influences affect their call in this vital issue currently facing the nation.
