PNG Police Minister Kramer pays surprise night visit to NCD police stations

PNG POLICE Minister Bryan Kramer paid a surprise visit to four of the ten police stations within the National Capital District last night.
Minister Kramer was accompanied by Acting Deputy Commissioner of Police and Chief of Police Operations Mr David Manning and Director of Internal Affairs Chief Superintendent Robert Ali.
The intent of the visit was for thebPolice Minister to observe and monitor how police at each police station operated at night.

The team commenced their visit at the Port Moresby Police Station and proceeded onto Badili, Hohola and finished at the Gordons Police station.
Minister Kramer had the chance to have a one-on-one discussion with shift members in-charge at each station and they shared the hardships they face at the place of work on a daily basis.
The majority of the issues encountered during the visit were lack of transport for pick up and drop offs, lack of occurrence books to register complaints, lack of weapons and none issue of police uniforms. At some stations with no transport for pick up, members for next shift such as mid-night shift (11pm-7am) had to make their own way to their respective stations during daytime and stayed around until their night shift commenced.
In response to the challenges they encountered Minister Kramer assured them that he will ensure APEC buses are donated to the Police department to be used for pick up and drop offs. He promised to address the other concerns in a timely manner as well.
Mr Kramer also raised concerns of cell blocks to be refurbished and divided into male, female and juvenile holding cells.
Minister Kramer intends to visit the six other NCD stations that were not visited in the immediate future
