A Third Report into Ramu Nickle Mine Basamuk area found Heavy Metals in Garden Food
The scientific team engaged by the Madang provincial government to investigate the spill at Basamuk have found deposits of heavy metals in food crop within the vicinity of the Ramu Nico processing facility.
Lead scientist Professor Alex Mojon told reporters last Friday that the levels of heavy metal found exceeds the normal required levels.
He said if such an incident happened in his country, the mine would have been shut immediately.
Professor Alex Mojon and his team travelled all the way from Switzerland at the request of the Madang Provincial Government to investigate the environmental damages in the Raicoast district of Madang.
