Another PNG MP Keith Iduhu Resigns from Marape-Rosso Government
In a significant development, Hon. Keith Iduhu, the Member for Hiri-Koiari, has officially resigned from the Marape-Rosso government, citing compelling reasons related to the current state of affairs in the country.
Expressing deep concern, Iduhu, like many others, was appalled by the recent chaos and civil unrest that unfolded in the capital city due to what he described as bureaucratic negligence and confusion. The acts of violence, widespread looting, and a blatant disregard for the rule of law stood in stark contrast to the democratic principles the nation prides itself on upholding.

In a formal statement, Hon. Iduhu conveyed that the events of yesterday revealed a significant flaw in the leadership of Prime Minister James Marape and other senior ministers and officials. He asserted that their incapacity to fulfill the sovereign duty of maintaining the rule of law and ensuring the welfare of the people became evident during the crisis.
The core issue, centered around grievances raised by the disciplinary forces, could have been prevented with proper attention and action. Iduhu criticized the bureaucratic negligence that allowed the situation to escalate and highlighted the lack of care displayed by the government, even after becoming aware of the potential for the crisis to spiral out of control.
With less than a year until the country marks 50 years of Independence, Iduhu expressed his dismay at the unprecedented scale of civil unrest that has left the capital city in a state of disorder, deeming it unacceptable for a nation celebrating such a milestone.
Iduhu, throughout the crisis, found Prime Minister Marape's silence and inaction deplorable, leading to his decision to no longer support a government that appears passive in the face of escalating chaos.
He emphasized that yesterday's crisis was, in effect, a vote of no confidence in the leadership and government, evident in the public protests, disobedience to government directives, and loss of confidence by businesses in institutions that promised protection.
Iduhu expressed concern for the safety of the people of Hiri-Koiari, stating that they no longer feel secure traveling to the capital city for goods and services, while businesses in the district faced attacks and threats. Unable to stand by while his constituents live in fear without assurance of government protection, Iduhu made the difficult decision to resign.
Beyond the events of yesterday, Iduhu revealed his dissatisfaction with the government's recent months of inaction in resolving the declining state of affairs. He voiced contrasting views on the allocation of public funds, priorities, and decisions, expressing dissatisfaction with certain policy directions and the perceived unfair distribution of resources.
Iduhu, who initially believed in a government prioritizing merit over convenience and service over self, lamented that his expectations were proven wrong, leading him to resign. He concluded by asserting his belief that the current administration lacks the conviction to serve the nation for the betterment of future generations.
Hon. Keith Iduhu pledged to continue serving his mandated role and contributing to the betterment of the nation outside of the government. As he steps down, he extends his well-wishes to Prime Minister Marape and the government in their future endeavors.
