PNG's Air Niugini Expands Presence in East Sepik With New Wewak Office

Air Niugini has officially opened a new sales office in Wewak, marking a major expansion of its customer services in East Sepik Province.

The new office, launched on Thursday at the newly developed Tangmow Plaza in the centre of Wewak township, is expected to improve access to airline services for passengers, businesses and government agencies in the province.

Air Niugini Chief Executive Officer Alan Milne said the facility reflects the airline’s ongoing commitment to improving customer convenience and strengthening domestic connectivity.

Mr Milne said the office was designed with modern customer service facilities, including spacious waiting areas and multiple service counters aimed at delivering faster and more efficient services.

He revealed that since moving into the new premises, ticket sales in Wewak had increased significantly compared to the same period last year.

According to the airline, the office is strategically positioned near public transport services, banks, shops and the main market, making it more accessible for customers seeking ticketing and travel assistance.

Wewak continues to play an important role as a gateway to economic and cultural activities in the Sepik region, particularly through agriculture and trade. Air Niugini said improved airline services would help local producers and businesses move goods and people more efficiently.

Governor for East Sepik Province, Allan Bird, welcomed the airline’s investment, describing the new office as an important development for the province.

Governor Bird said the modern facility would support tourism, business growth and improved travel services for the people of East Sepik.

The office has been operating for the past month and is staffed by three employees, with five service counters catering for retail, corporate, government and group travel bookings.

Air Niugini currently operates two daily services into Boram Airport in Wewak, including direct flights between Port Moresby and Wewak on selected days, as well as connecting services through Madang and Vanimo.

The airline says the new office will strengthen its services in the region and support growing travel demand across northern Papua New Guinea.
