ALOTAU RECOVERS
As severe cyclone Ita slowly shifts cause for Queensland Australia, Alotau Town regains it's composure. It was hammered by extreme strong winds and rain on Wednesday, on Thursday it awoke to much cleaning up- miraculously no casualties were reported.
While government services and schools were closed yesterday, today public servants returned to business as usual. Acting Provincial Administrator Michael Kape had recalled them to provide service for people after the effects of the cyclone and to restore some normalcy.
Meantime, Principal Education Advisor Roma Tuidam has declared an early start to term one holidays for students in Milne Bay, calling off classes yet again today - students are to resume classes for term two on April 22.
Power and water supply to the township is being worked on, they hope all these will be sorted by the weekend.
Communication is still down to the provinces island communities who received the brunt of the onslaught since Sunday. It's been said there's been significant damage in areas towards Rossel, Sudest, Misima and the Engineer Group of Islands. Authorities working to get updates via VHF radios say it may take up to next week to ascertain the real extent of damages.
