Hagen Cultural Show invites backpackers

Mt Hagen Cultural Show Committee Executive Officer Gabriel Kuntina says the Show Committee is willing to assist the backpackers who would be coming for the cultural festival in August. He said this in line with tourists finding it somewhat expensive to travel due to high costs imposed by tour operators and restrict their movements within confined areas such as big hotels. “Those who cannot afford luxury travel and want to visit as backpackers were missed out because of the current trend in tourism in the highlands,” he added.

He said we expect backpackers to visit and stay with locals at a minimal cost for accommodations and meals for the weekender. “This is for both local and international tourists. When Kagamuga Airport is upgraded to allow international flights, we would be expecting more backpackers for the Mt. Hagen Cultural Show as well as other Highlands Provincial Shows,” he added.
