PNG FASHION WEEK
Seven local designers will have the opportunity to showcase their clothing line to the region and the world on the 20th to August in the PNG Fashion Week runway.
Director of PNG Fashion Week (PNGFW) Mrs. Janet Sios said the event is dedicated to put PNG on the map with the country’s traditional designs and patterns being incorporated in fashion and arts, and as well as empowering emerging designers and young models to be entrepreneurs in the fashion and garment industry.
The event will also provide a platform for the designers to introduce and promote their work and grow into established brand names.
“Papua New Guinea has the sleeping giant potential to become a tribal trend powerhouse in the multi- million dynamic fashion and garment industry,” said Mrs. Sios.
Meanwhile, the fashion week will start with a fashion and business workshop on the 17th of August to be held at the Holiday Inn in Port Moresby.
“The highlight of the event and the workshop will be the guest designers the Managing Director of the Fiji Fashion Week Ellen Whippy and Failepou Peni who is the Director of Pacific Runway Fashion from Sydney.”
Among them will also be a guest designer from New Zealand Bou Fonua who will be attending the event as well.
“Overall, this is a PNGFW initiative in developing and enhancing the fashion industry in PNG. The show will showcase a range of activities, for those in the Arts Industry and the general public.”
Sios said the PNGFW is an exclusive event, but they decided put out only 130 tickets to the public to purchase because it is a PNG event and Papua New Guineans should be also given the opportunity to see what the country has to offer in fashion. The tickets are selling at the cost of K120 and can be purchased at the Frangipani Printing Shop at the Vision City Shopping Mall.
