WITHDRAWAL OF PAPER BANKNOTES AND K2 COIN


The Public is advised that all paper banknotes (K2, K5, K10, K20, K50 and K100), and
the K2 coin in circulation are being withdrawn by the Bank of Papua New Guinea in
accordance with Section 62 of the Central Banking Act of 2000. The withdrawal will
be made from November 2012 to 30th June 2013. These paper banknotes and the K2
coin will cease to be legal tender in Papua New Guinea as of 30th June 2013.
The paper banknotes have been phased out and replaced by polymer (plastic)
substrate. The polymer banknotes and coins (5t, 10t, 20t, 50t and K1) remained as
legal tender, and are not affected by this notice.
The public is therefore advised to return all paper banknotes and the K2 coin to any
of the commercial bank branches or directly to the Bank of Papua New Guinea
before 30th June 2013 for payment on face value.
