Man kills his wife because she closed the ketchup bottle too tight
Lawrence Loeffler |
A man was arrested and charged with murder after he allegedly killed his wife because she closed the ketchup bottle too tight for him to open it, according to police reports in Oregon.
Deschutes County Police said that an 86-year-old local man will go on trial for murdering his wife. The man complained that his stepdaughter did not wish him a happy birthday and that his wife closed the ketchup bottle too tight.
Deschutes County District Attorney Mary Anderson told the jury about Lawrence Loeffler’s complaints during opening statements on Wednesday, in his murder trial.
Anderson said Loeffler complained about his family during interrogation by officers on the death of 83-year-old Betty Loeffler. Prosecutors said the murder was premeditated.
Anderson said Lawrence Loeffler took the phone off the hook, pulled out a .25 caliber pistol in the middle of the night and shot his wife.
She was shot once in the neck and then again in the head in what investigators described as a "kill shot" to make sure she was dead, Anderson told jurors.
While Lawrence Loeffler admitted to killing his wife, defense attorney Jacques DeKalb said his client was not guilty of murder because he was suffering from delusions.
Lawrence Loeffler breathes with the help of an oxygen concentrator and began to cry as he sat at the defense table listening to the police calls made after the murder.
