QUEENS BATON TO PNG

Papua New Guinea will be the 10th spot for the Queen's Baton Relay, from November 4 to 8, as it travels the globe through 70 nations and territories of the Commonwealth.

Having the Baton in P-N-G will be an exciting opportunity for the residents of both Port Moresby and Kavieng, New Ireland.

New Ireland Governor Sir Julius Chan said he is delighted that Kavieng has been granted the honour of hosting the Glasgow 2014 Queen's Baton Relay, bringing with it the opportunity to highlight and promote his Province.

Preparation have already began to welcome and to celebrate this inaugural visit to their pictursque town, where the people will showcase not only their simple lifestyle but their cultural diversity.

It is expected to draw and unite thousands of men, women and children to participate in the celebrations.

Chairperson of the PNG Queen's Baton Relay Organising Committee Tamzin Wardley said planning is already underway to celebrate the arrival of the Glasgow 2014 Queen's Baton Relay.

She said they all look forward for both Port Moresby and Kavieng to host their activities organise to coincide with the arrival of the Queen's Baton Relay, such as the UNICEF partners schools sports program as the finale to the Relay in Port Moresby, a English Tea Party for Children in Kavieng hosted by British High Commission and the Corporate Barefoot bowls Day on Thursday 7th of November.
