CHIEF Secretary to Government Sir Manasupe Zurenuoc has been appointed chairman of Mineral Resources Development Corporation (MRDC).
Prime Minister Peter O’Neill, as trustee shareholder, appointed Sir Manasupe to replace Simon Tosali, who retired as chairman and board member .
Sir Manasupe had his first meeting with MRDC board members and senior management in Kokopo last week.
He was briefed on operations of the company, its subsidiaries and their investment programme.
“MRDC is a company that manages landowner benefits for people in resource project areas, particularly in mining and petroleum projects in the country.
“The growth of the group’s assets show they have done well over the years.
“But going forward, we need to review our investments and strategies.
“This review is important because we are at a crucial crossroads now when the landowner companies from petroleum project areas would receive large inflow of revenues from the export of LNG starting next year.”
Sir Manasupe said the beneficiaries (landowners) had to be assured that the investment strategy and guidelines put in place by the government meet the global standard and continue the growth and expansion the MRDC group has experienced over the years.
He thanked Tosali for the stewardship he provided the MRDC group during his time as board chairman. The National
