Former New Zealand Prime Minister Helen Clark arrives in Port Moresby

Former New Zealand Prime Minister and United Nations Development Program Administrator Helen Clark arrived in Port Moresby in a low key ceremony this afternoon.
This was her second visit to the country since becoming a Prime Minister for New Zealand in the late 1980's.
She was met by Minister for Foreign Affairs and Immigration Rimbink Pato, Ambassador Lucy Bogari, Deputy Secretary for Foreign Affairs, UN Resident Coordinator Roy Trivedy and other members of the diplomatic corp.
Ms Clark was accompanied by Anna Hjartardottir-Policy Specialist to the Executive Office.
She was led to the ceremonial car park and briefly paused for a snap shot with traditional dancers from Oro province.
Ms Clark was then escorted to the Government house to meet with the Governor General Sir Michael Ogio and later proceeded straight to parliament to meet with Prime Minister Peter O'Neil and the Speaker of Parliament Theo Zurenuoc.
She was expected to officiate at a ground breaking ceremony for a new UN house at Waigani but the program was cancelled, allowing her and her entourage more time to rest and prepare for tomorrow where she will be touring East New Britain for several key programs there.
A welcome dinner will be hosted by Foreign Affairs and Immigration Minister Rimbink Pato tonight at the State Function Hall in parliament.
On Friday, the UNDP administrator will meet with and attend press conferences with senior Government Ministers and PNG Women Leaders before departing PNG shores in the evening.
