New Police Commisioner saves O’neil, case adjourned to June 25.
Prime Minister Peter O’neil survived a possible arrest
after new Police Commissioner intervened. Police Commissioner told the court
the Royal PNG Constabulary consents to the PM’s request for a stay on the
arrest warrants
The
National Court has adjourned hearing on Prime Minister Peter O’Neills stay
application to June 25. That’s the new drama that has gripped the Police and
the Port Moresby by surprise.
The
drama now has to go into recess until June 25 with the Prime Minister Peter
O’Neill off the hook again. The court extended time to give time to the new
police lawyer Paula Mawa to properly prepare and make submissions.
The
court refused to receive the consent by Mr Mawa and Tiffany Nonggorr PM’s
lawyer until Mr Mawa makes proper submissions on why court should entertain the
consent.
Mr
Mawa and Tiffany were trying to purse to obtain stay order. The new Police
lawyer Mr Mawa replaced Nicholas Miviri this morning when the Court resumed.
Mr
Mawa after taking over is supporting Tiffany to obtain the stay order –
contradicting Mr Miviri’s move yesterday to stop the stay order.
Sam
Koim has been avoided in the proceedings. Meanwhile thousands turned up at the
National Court to witness the hearing under heavy police presence.
Even
the supporters of the Prime Minister made their presence felt with their big
numbers in attendance.
