PNG Attorney General Kerenga Kua sacked, Ano Pala takes over
The government has sacked Attorney General, Kerenga Kua and appointed member for Rigo, Ano Pala as the new Justice Minister and Attorney-General, replacing Kerenga Kua.
Prime Minister, Peter O'Neill made the appointment today, stating the interest of Government and its stability, as reasons for this change.
The decision is related to a letter by Kua to the Prime Minister, dated June 12, 2014, opposing Government's plan to amend section 145 of the Constitution, undermining Cabinet and government solidarity.
NBC News reports, Governor-General Grand Chief Sir Michael Ogio, signed the instruments to effect the Ministry change, this evening.
In a statement tonight, Mr. O'Neill thanked Kua for his contributions in Cabinet, since his appointment in August 2012, highlighting a number of vital legislation brought to Parliament.
These include among others, legislation for the Kumul Structure and the Sovereign Wealth Fund, which have been delayed, causing the Prime Minister concern.
Meantime, the People's National Congress Party held a caucus meeting and endorsed the Prime Minister's stand.
Kua's decommissioning as Minister is the fifth in the current Government, joining THE Party Leader, Don Polye, United Resources Party Leader, William Duma, Ijivitari M-P, David Arore and Kikori M-P, Mark Maipakai.

Meanwhile investigation Task Force Sweep team chairman Sam Koim was today refused the right to join as an active party in the court proceedings over a warrant of arrest involving the Prime Minister Peter O’Neill.
Koim appeared this morning seeking leave to join the proceedings as a party however this was opposed by Tiffany Twivey, representing O’Neill.
Twivey argued that ITFS did not have any legal existence to prosecute criminal matters such as the police and should not be allowed to join the proceedings.
She said that Task Force Sweep comprised of police officers and since the Police Force was a respondent to the application, those officers would automatically fall under the Police Force.
