Police Commissioner Toami Kulunga will serve a seven month imprisonment with hard labour concurrently at the Bomana Correctional Institution in Port Moresby for contempt charges.
The National Court today sentenced him to a 21 month imprisonment; seven months each for his three charges however he will serve seven months.
Deputy Chief Justice Gibs Salika when handing down his decision on penalties for Mr. Kulunga this afternoon said Mr. Kulunga was in contempt for failing to comply with court orders of October 01 2012 to re-instate Geoffrey Vaki as Assistant Commissioner of Police.
“In relation to denying the plaintiff the opportunity to be considered for the position of Deputy Commissioner of Police (Operations), the contemnor was compounding and repeating the acts of non compliance with the court orders” said Justice Gibs Salika.
