Vaki : Eluh suspended for disgraceful conduct

ACTING police Commissioner Geoffrey Vaki said ACP Crimes Thomas Eluh was suspended because he showed dissent, disrespect and disloyalty towards him as the newly appointed acting Commissioner.

In a media conference acting Commissioner Vaki said “The perception that Mr Eluh was suspended to remove him from the Paul Paraka case is not true”

He maintained that Mr Eluh behaved disgracefully when he argued with him on June 16 inside the office of the Deputy Commissioner Operations.

After assuming office Acting Commissioner Vaki said he walked into the Deputy Commissioner’s office and saw former DCP Operations Simon Kauba, Mr Eluh and other senior officers having a meeting.

He said, “Mr Eluh raised his voice and argued with me, but I remained calm and walked off after Mr Eluh’s tantrums.

“Thereafter I issued directives for his suspension but the matter was unfortunately misconstrued in the media because of the impending investigations and court case surrounding the Paul Paraka saga.

“Let me for the record state here that Mr Eluh committed an act of insubordination against the Acting Police Commissioner. He breached the code of ethics and is therefore liable to face normal disciplinary charges under the Police Force Act.

“We are not operating a tucker shop or private business here, the Constabulary is a disciplinary organization and I am the duly appointed Acting Police Commissioner. No officer below me has the right to challenge my authority.” He said.
