K100,000 robbery suspects napped
Police in Wewak, East Sepik Province have apprehended two suspects believed to be linked to a K100, 000 robbery from Garamut Enterprise last week.
Wewak Police Station Commander Inspector James Baugen who released a police statement today said two armed man walked into Garamut Enterprise main office around 8am last Thursday morning while the office was opening up for business, held up the female cashier and walked out with k100, 000 in cash.
Inspector Baugen said the robbers escaped in a Toyota land cruiser that was waiting outside with another four occupants in the car.
The inspector said the driver of the land cruiserr was held-up, tied-up and left in the car while the robbers used the car to carry out the robbery and get away.
He said police were informed very late and arrived at the scene of the robbery 30 minutes later.
He said police investigators believe the robbers had an insider because the manner in which the crime was committed was well planed and well executed.
The getaway vehicle that was used by the robbers was dumped at Kreee Heights with the driver still tied-up inside.
However Inspector Baugen said the matter is now under police investigations and two suspects have been apprehended and are being questioned.
One of the suspects apprehended is believed to have flown in from Port Moresby while the other is Wewak based, both of whom are now in police custody.
Inspector Baugen is calling on the public in Wewak to come forward with any information that could assist in the capture of the four other members of the gang that are still at large.
