Prime Minister o'Neill vists Menyamyan
Prime Minister Hon. Peter O’Neill, CMG, MP was given a rousing welcome when he flew in by Helicopter to Menyamya to attend the Menyamyan Secondary School’s 25th Grade 10 Graduation.
In his speech, Prime Minister Hon. Peter O’Neill told students that their graduation is just the beginning and they still have college to go to. “Education you got now is a tool for you to get more skills in your life,” Prime Minister Hon. Peter O’Neill said.
“Do not thing that this is the end.” Prime Minister Hon. Peter O’Neill added that it is now a policy for students to continue to Grades 11 and 12 then on to Universities.
He urged the students not to follow the bad examples of students who drink and fight. “That is not life. Life is about self-discipline so that you can have a quality of life.” Prime Minister Hon. Peter O’Neill told the students that if they do not have quality of life, they will be unable to look after themselves, making them unable to look after other.
He went on to pledge K1 million to start construction on a new classroom for Menyamya Secondary School, in preparation to their first intake of Grade 12 students next year, and another K1 million for infrastructure development at the Asegi High School. Prime Minister Hon. Peter O’Neill said in years gone by, governments have planned to introduce tuition-free education but were unable to implement.
He said when elections arrived in 2012, he and his government made the commitment to implement and they did. Prime Minister Hon. Peter O’Neill said it’s been two years since the policy was introduced and more than two million children are now going to school.
